Education for Children

At Zawadi, we believe Every Child has the Right to access safe, quality education. Through advocacy with education stakeholders, supporting the most vulnerable children with school fees and levies both at primary and secondary levels, school uniforms, scholastic materials and provision of dignity packs (sanitary pads) to vulnerable adolescent girls.

The Status of Education.

More children and adolescents today are enrolled in pre-primary, primary and secondary education than ever before. Yet, for many of them, schooling does not lead to learning – and this was before COVID-19 shuttered schools and disrupted learning across the globe, creating an urgent need to reimagine education.(UNICEF)

A lack of trained teachers, inadequate learning materials, makeshift classes and poor sanitation facilities make learning difficult for many children. Others come to school too hungry, sick or exhausted from work or household tasks to benefit from their lessons.

Zawadi Community Programme - Touching Lives

Almost 1.13 million children of primary school age (6 to 13 years old) are out of school in Kenya, according to an Out-of-School Children Initiative study conducted in Kenya in 2020. The situation has worsened due to the impact of COVID-19 related school closures, followed by drought in many of the focus counties.

Girls, children with disabilities, those from minority groups and children living in poor and remote areas are most often denied access to education. This has far-reaching consequences on their futures and those of their families, and  communities

This learning crisis is the greatest global challenge to preparing children and adolescents for life, work and active citizenship.

We promote free, equal access to quality education for all children – from early learning to tertiary  education. We work with children, their families, communities, wider society and governments, and advocate at both  local and national levels, so that all children are able to get an education.
