Women in the Kenyan contribute significantly to the economy of the country both directly or indirectly and therefore stirring up the economy out of such a high poverty index would need measures put in place for economic empowerment of Kenyan women, specifically in the catchment counties Zawadi Community Programme operates.

At Zawadi our women empowerment projects and initiatives aim to enhance women’s rights, opportunities, and overall well-being through various strategies, including economic empowerment, access to education, and combating gender-based violence.

To identify and promote the strong leadership and growth of women as individuals in their own right. To develop the self-confidence of women in building their capacity. Training the women to impart knowledge of opportunities and resources available to get backing support.

Key Areas of Focus:

Economic Empowerment:

  • Promoting entrepreneurship and income-generating opportunities: This includes providing training, access to finance, and mentorship to women entrepreneurs. 
  • Supporting women’s access to the workforce: This involves addressing barriers to employment and promoting equal pay and opportunities. 
  • Strengthening women’s economic resilience: This includes providing support to women in rural areas and promoting sustainable livelihoods. 

Access to Education and Skills Development:

  • Ensuring girls’ access to quality education: This involves addressing issues like early marriage and school dropouts. 
  • Promoting vocational training and skills development: This equips women with the skills they need to participate in the workforce and start businesses. 

Combating Gender-Based Violence (GBV):

  • Raising awareness about GBV: This includes promoting prevention strategies and providing support to survivors. 
  • Strengthening legal frameworks and institutions: This ensures that women have access to justice and protection from violence. 
  • Providing psychosocial support and counseling: This helps women cope with the trauma of violence and rebuild their lives. 

Social and Cultural Change:

  • Challenging harmful social norms and practices: This includes addressing issues like female genital mutilation (FGM) and early marriage. 
  • Promoting gender equality in all aspects of life: This involves ensuring that women have the same rights and opportunities as men.
