Zawadi Community Program is focused on ensuring sustainable food production systems and implement resilient agricultural practices that increase productivity and production, that help maintain ecosystems, that strengthen capacity for adaptation to climate change, extreme weather, drought, flooding and other disasters and that progressively improve land and soil quality.
Environmental Key Issues and Challenges:
Climate Change Impacts: Nyanza and Western Kenya faces challenges related to climate change, including unpredictable rainfall patterns, droughts, and increased intensity of rainfall, which can lead to soil erosion and water scarcity.
Biodiversity Loss: Habitat destruction, human-wildlife conflicts, invasive species, pollution, and overexploitation threaten biodiversity in the region.
Soil Degradation: Soil erosion and degradation are significant problems, particularly in agricultural areas, hindering sustainable land use.
