Clean Water Provision

Main objective is to improve access to safe and sustainable water supply and build the resilience of vulnerable communities.

In the Nyanza and Western regions of Kenya, limited access to safe water and sanitation infrastructure contributes to water-borne and diarrheal disease rates, particularly among children.

Entire communities need clean water, and they need more than just water

Specific Challenges in Nyanza and Western Kenya

  • Limited Access to Safe Water: Many people in these regions lack access to clean drinking water sources, forcing them to rely on contaminated water sources, which can lead to diarrheal diseases.
  • Inadequate Sanitation: Poor sanitation practices, including open defecation, further exacerbate the problem, contributing to the spread of diarrheal diseases.
  • Hygiene Practices: Limited access to handwashing facilities with soap and water also contributes to the spread of diarrheal diseases.

Interventions to Address the Problem:

  • Improved Water Quality: Implementing household water treatment methods, such as chlorinating stored water, can help reduce diarrheal disease risk.
  • Improved Sanitation: Promoting the use of latrines and improving sanitation infrastructure can help prevent the spread of diarrheal diseases.
  • Hygiene Education: Educating communities about proper hygiene practices, such as handwashing with soap and water, is crucial for preventing diarrheal diseases.
